Listen to the top 100 songs that I played on Spotify during 2018.
They recently sent me an email which highlighted my 2018 music. I love a wide variety of music from many genres and artists, but you probably already knew that, if you have followed my blog over the past 4 years. In fact, Spotify called me “adventurous” because I listened to “non-mainstream” artists 159% more than the average Spotify user. I also included my top songs for 2017 and 2016.
Your Top Songs – 2018 (Playlist) – 100 songs, 7 hr 23 min
Enjoy the following custom playlist Spotify created for me with the 100 songs that I loved most this year, all wrapped up.

Your Top Songs – 2016 (Playlist) – 99 songs, 7 hr 4 min
Here are various summaries they provided that reflect my Spotify listening history during 2018. Very interesting!
- 11,288 minutes (188 hours – 22% more than 2017)
- 2,736 songs (228/month)
- Dressed on Festen (2017) by Milos Milonakis
- Questions on The Journey, Vol. 1 (2018) by Cinthia Garcia
- Slow Down
- Luminous on Encounters of the Beautiful Kind (2018) by Rachel LaFond
- A Beautiful Distraction on Waking the Muse (2013) by Michele McLaughlin
Even with all the newfangled music coming out, I still found time for oldies like this.
Cavalleria Rusticana: Intermezzo on Mascagni:Cavalleria Rusticana (Remastered) (1953) by Renato Cellini
Tastebreakers (Playlist) – 50 songs, 4 hr 4 min
To broaden my horizons in 2019, Spotify created this playlist of songs from genres and artists I don’t usually explore.
Check out my personal playlists.
- My Playlists (10) – favorite piano, guitar, folk, pop, and country music
- My Reel Tapes (14) – playlists from the 60’s and 70’s based on personal tape recordings from FM radio
- Discovery Mix (8) – background music for reading, writing, or focus work
I recently created the Discovery Mix page with all my Discovery Mix playlists. I will be creating more so I thought it would be helpful to provide an index to them in one place. I added a Discovery Mix link to the PLAYLISTS section in the sidebar, which was shifted to the top. Also I added a Music > Playlists menu option and updated the Music section on the Welcome page so it’s always easy to find.
Listen to indie folk music by Handsome & Gretyl and Lullen on their new album A Brave Lament (Original Soundtrack).
This music was created for a short documentary film about grief & loss. Lullen is one of the side projects for Handsome (Brett), which he describes this way:
Lullen is a soft breath of soothing, seaborne melodies designed to mimic the calming, clearing effects of the sound of the ocean. Created with deep, warm felt piano and awash with deep reverberations, Lullen moves listeners to center, focus, and dream.
A Brave Lament (Original Soundtrack) (2018) – 11 songs, 35 min
Make You Mine (2018) – 1 song, 3 min 22 sec
See my music post on Handsome & Gretyl for more albums, videos, and links. It will be updated with the new album.

Listen to solo piano music by Doug Hammer with his new album Celtique.
There is a great review by Kathy Parsons at mainlypiano.com. He describes the album this way:
Celtique tells the story of a fisherman: a day in his life from daybreak to twilight. It also tells his whole story. All the songs have double meanings, like Through the Mist and Journey Home. The album begins and ends the same way, like an unbroken, sacred circle. Inspired by my wife’s homeland, Brittany, the Celtic part of France. Contains 15 new original piano compositions. Peek through the fog, smell the sea, hear the distant waves and discover the ancient landscape that holds so many stories that can never be told…
Enjoy his new album.
