Asleep at the Wheel: Still the King

Earlier this year Asleep at the Wheel released a new Western Swing country album Still the King: Celebrating the Music of Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys. I have also included two earlier tribute albums with the music of Bob Wills, the King of Western Swing, which each won three Grammy albums. They have a “Merry Texas Christmas Y’All!” show this Saturday night, Dec 5, at Guene Hall, Texas’ Oldest Dance Hall (near New Braunfels), and I have included their Christmas album here as well.

Still the King (2015) – 22 songs, 1 hr 10 min

This music tribute album features an all-star cast of 22 artists, including George Strait, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Lyle Lovett, Brad Paisley, Robert Earl Keen, Randy Rogers, Reckless Kelly, The Time Jumpers, Avett Brothers, Jamey Johnson, Old Crow Medicine Show, and former Texas Playboys Billy Briggs (92), and Leon Rausch (86).

Ride with Bob (1999) – 17 songs, 1 hr

This album spotlighted Lyle Lovett, Vince Gill, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Dwight Yoakam, Reba McEntire, Clay Walker, Mark Chesnutt, Clint Black, Tim McGraw, Steve Wariner, and Lee Ann Womack.


Tribute to the Music of Bob Wills (1993) – 18 songs, 56 min

This album featured George Strait, Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, Dolly Parton, Chet Atkins, Merle Haggard, Brooks & Dunn, Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson, Johnny Rodriguez, and Marty Stuart.


Merry Christmas Y’All (1997) – 13 songs, 42 min
